I've been rummaging through some old files this afternoon and found something about some dodgy "CCT" employees !!!
Two employees of "CCT" ("William Th*m*s" & "John M*asur*s") were both fined £10.00 each at Coventry Police Court back in June 1941 ! "Th*m*s" was fined for falsifying a way bill belonging to the Corporation and further with embezzling "8s" (Shillings !) and "M*asur*s" for aiding and abetting in the embezzling and also with altering a Ticket Machine, with intent to defraud !!!
It was found that Conductor "Th*m*s" had the dial of his Ticket Machine altered, to make it look like he'd used less Tickets than what he actually had ? The way Bill had been made out to agree with the Machine and the Fares involved amounted to "8s".
"M*asur*s" duty was to look after the Ticket Machines and put them right whenever they went wrong ? It was found that he had set back the recording numbers on Conductor Th*m*s's machine !!!
"Thomas" told the Court that his action was done on the impulse of the moment and his companion ("Measures") expressed regret for what had happened !!! Both men were dismissed by the Corporation !!!

Was it normal for staff caught "on the fiddle" to be brought to court? I know here in Dublin that a lot of conductors were generating income for themselves, here it was known as "rent money", any that were caught were sacked on the spot (a cousin of mine was one of them!) but prosecuting them was unheard of here. One that I knew of had his TIM altered in various ways usually with extra settings that wouldn't register the fare.
