Quote:
A UK bus operator flew bosses to Poland to recruit 50 new drivers despite there being 2.6million people on the dole in the UK.

Abellio, a subsidiary of the Dutch state rail operator, claimed it could not find suitable British candidates to work on routes in central and South West London.

The firm went on a massive recruitment drive in former Soviet country to expand its workforce. They claimed that there were 'no suitable' Britons.

But a current employee at the transport giant said he knew a number of friends who had been interviewed for the posts - and turned down.

You can bet this has a lot to do with rates of pay although that's unlikely to be admitted. Wages in Poland are low in comparison to the UK and workers from here are easily tempted by what they would see as generous rates of pay and employers are often quick to exploit that.

I can just imagine the report in the local Dutch newspaper.

"Local man, Kurt Van Rijk, who has just completed 25 years service with transport company Abellio is being given the holiday of a lifetime by his employers - a free trip to Poland for him and his family. Kurt's itinerary will include visits to Gdansk, Warsaw, and Krakow.

To make the trip extra special Kurt and his wife will be travelling to Poland by coach so that they can see all the natural beauty of Europe along the way. Kurt's holiday will have even more thrills as Abellio have arranged with the local councils in Poland for Kurt to meet local people so that he can be gain insights into local culture and traditions.

We all wish the man from Abellio's recruitment department a wonderful trip.
