Dear forum I have spoken to Aston Mannor museum this morning they are desperately trying to save their museum and come to a compromise with birmingham city council, the museum would be a great loss if it were to close, it has done so much for coventry alot more than our museum. they are trying to raise the money and come up with a plan to be able to buy the old tram depo from the council but they only have a 6 week deadline. the council have put so many obsticals in their way and have also put a high price on the building, this museum has been open since 1985 there was another museum funding aston mannors rent but because of current climate this funding has ceased if anyone can think of any fund raising ideas please contact aston mannor. it is such a great shame the members of this museum have worked so hard and i am sure that many members of this forum have very fond memories from aston mannor they have always done a great job for us and we wish them the very best on saving not only the building but our museum which they have worked so hard for. ps it would be a sad loss to lose it

I am helping the Museum with it's discussions with Birmingham Council. Some £100k has been raised towards the purchase of the building without the benefit of a nationwide appeal. The Council do not want the Museum to close as they would then be responsible for the building upkeep but their own policy on Community Asset Transfer makes their current proposal not viable if the Museum is to develop. The Museum remains open and will have their normal programme of events till fiurther notice. Further meetings are being held with the Council. The agenda has moved on as I am in no doubt the Museum could remain open in it's current form but having reviewed Museum working the Directors realise that changes in the way it operates are needed, and these cannot be carried out without security of tenure.
